Pilgrims' arrival in Holy Land prompts Israeli vacation boom

Monday March 20 by Claudia bournecnn
The arrival of tens of thousands of Christian faithful for Pope John Paul's Holy Land pilgrimage has spawned an exodus of Israelis seeking a quick getaway to Europe. Israel's Airports Authority said on Monday it expected nearly 45,000 pilgrims to arrive this week in some 300 flights to participate in the pontiff's historic trip from March 21-26. But rather than return with empty aircraft, airlines have offered cut-rate packages from Israel to Italy, Spain and in some cases the United States.
