Merger in the Air

Another blockbuster airlines merger may take wing. Northwest Airlines and American Airlines executives have talked about a possible bid by American to buy Northwest, ABCNEWS affiliate KSTP-TV reported Thursday night. KSTP, citing unnamed “well-placed” sources within the industry, reported that American head Don J. Carty and Northwest President and CEO John Dasburg have been in contact about a possible merger. Carty is chairman and chief executive of AMR Corp., the parent of Fort Worth-based American Airlines.
